How To Build A Shed
The question of how to build a shed is made easier if you have shed plans to help. My brother was very successful with his shed build due to his storage shed plans. He then went on to explain that it requires at least a good understanding of the building process in order to be successful. I asked my brother about his successful shed build and a basic outline is.
First, you need to design a plan, better still go here for further details - storage shed plans - so you can build your own shed fastand easy, you can even get a free shed plan first, Here you will find step by step fully illustrated plans. This give you information on a lot of shed sizes so you have a wide choice, The procedures to follow, the shelving and other storing information, down to the window and door details. Once you have laid down everything, you can already start building the shed. A small and simple 12’ x 8’ shed has three main parts: floor, walls, and roof.
The Floor
Every part of a structure starts with a frame, first, the floor . Install nine deck piers in 4’ x 6’ spacing to form a rectangle. Attach three 12’ x 4” x 6” beams on the piers and fasten them together with 1” metal strap. Then install ten (10) 8’ x 2” x 6” joists to two 12’ x 2” x 6” rim joists resting along the two outside beams in 14 ½” interval (13 ¾” for two outside joists). Lastly, cover the entire floor with three 4’ x 8’ x ¾” plywood.
The Walls
The walls may be the hardest part you have to build depending on the design. Some sheds have windows on both rear and the side and installed with two doors. Nevertheless, it must follow a format wherein you need to construct studs according to the floor plan.
For plain back wall, line up ten (10) 7’ 4” x 2” x 4” (6” lower than the front wall) studs with 1’ 4” interval between them on 12’ x 2” x 4” top and bottom plates. The front wall, which features a door 3’ x 6’ 5” doorway, follows the same procedure but with slightly higher wall.
The side walls have measurements of increasing height starting at the back (7’ 4”) going to the front (8’). Align five studs with an inch difference in height from the backmost stud, then fastened them on 7’ x 5 3/16” top plate and 7’ 5” bottom plate.
Once all the wall frames are down, you may now raise and brace them to the floor then cover the outside with plywood.
The Roof
The roof rafters are ten (10) 10’ x 2” x 6” with same interval as the walls. Install overhangs of 1’ on each side, which covers a total of 14’ x 10’ area. After which, you may now lay the roof sheeting on top then fasten.
After my brother explained the above, I still didn't have a clue, however when he showed me the shed plans, it made sense. So now I am about to have some extra storage space in my garden thanks to my shed plans (and my brother, his helping!) . Hope they help you too.
